Keeping healthy is extremely important for all ages! However, seniors are more susceptible to further complications following something as simple as a flu. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and flu season, we want to share these 5 easy tips to stay healthy!
Intake healthy foods
Eat healthy foods, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein. Lean protein consists of seafood, eggs, beans, etc. Limit your intake of foods high in sugar or fat.
Wash your hands
According to the CDC, handwashing is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your family from getting sick.
Get sufficient sleep
Most healthy older adults age 65 or older need 7-8 hours of sleep each night to feel rested and alert.
Stay active
Staying active will improve your ability to think, to learn and to make decisions. You can stay active by performing balance activities, muscle-strengthening activities, seated stretches; you name it! Physical activity should be completed with assistance and/or supervision if needed. If any discomfort is present, stop immediately.
Avoid contact with others who may be sick
This one is extremely important! Be weary, wear a mask and do not go out if not necessary. If you feel any flu symptoms, stay home. This can be tough, but luckily with today’s technology, you can find a way to see your loved ones while keeping safe.
